English in Los Angeles (ELA) is located on the campus of Los Angeles City College.  The College was established in 1929 as the first community college in Los Angeles, and maintains a tradition of excellence in the educational community. The college offers over 2,000 academic courses and has an annual enrollment of over 15,000 students from about 80 different countries.

 INSTRUCTION AT ALL LEVELS
The comprehensive English Language Program accepts students at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of language proficiency. Sessions begin every month and lasts for four weeks.

NON-CREDIT PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS AND PROFESSIONALS
ELA provides special non-credit programs for international students and professionals who want to improve their English. The programs of the ELA are separate from the College’s regular instructional programs. However, the ELA maintains the same standards of instructional excellence found at the College.

PLACEMENT TEST
Upon arrival, students are given a placement test to determine their language ability and their appropriate starting level.

TOEFL AND TOEIC PREPARATION
Advanced students may enroll in the TOEFL preparation course. However, graduates of the ELA may enroll at Los Angeles City College without taking the TOEFL.

The TOEIC program is for business professionals who wish to improve their communication skills.
