1929년에 설립된 Santa Monica College는 캘리포니아 주립 대학교에 속하며, 서부지역 학교 협의회(Western Association of Schools and Colleges)의 정식 인가를 받았습니다. 캘리포니아 최고의 커뮤니티 칼리지로 인정되는 SMC는 학생들에게 대학 과정중 처음 2년에 대한 교육을 제공합니다. SMC는 특히 UCLA와 USC에서 가장 높은 편입률을 보이고 있습니다. 등록 학생수는 31,000명이며 이 중 90여개국 출신의 외국인 학생이 9%를 차지하고 있습니다.

캠퍼스는 LA 서쪽에 위치한 인구 10만명의 Santa Monica 에 소재하고 있으며, 날씨는 연 평균 섭씨24도 정도로, 온화하고 따뜻하며 부드러운 해변가의 바람을 느낄 수 있습니다. 캠퍼스 가까운 곳에 Disneyland, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, LA 훌륭한 극장들, 음악 시설및 박물관등이 있고, UCLA, USC, Pepperdine University, Loyola Marymount Univeristy 와도 인접해 있습니다.

Santa Monica College는 경영, 경제, 물리학, 컴퓨터 공학, 커뮤니케이션, 그래픽 아트, 화학, 생물학 및 공학을 포함한 다양한 전공 과정을 마련하고 있습니다. 또한 본교는 2년제 인문 학사 학위, 전문 자격증 프로그램 및 자격 수료 프로그램을 제공합니다. 본교 교육은 학생들이 우수 종합 대학교로 편입할 수 있도록 하는데 중점을 두고 있습니다. 학부 2년 과정을 마친 학생은 준 인문 학사를 취득하게 되며 4년제 대학으로 편입하여 학사 학위를 취득하게 됩니다. 대부분의 수업은 종합 대학에 비해 소규모로 진행되며 강의는 종합 대학의 상급 학년 과정을 위한 준비 학습에 비중을 두고 있습니다.  학생들은 대학 상급생과 대학원생과 경쟁할 필요가 없으므로 여유있게 실험실과 스튜디오를 쓸 수 있습니다.

영어연수과정

= Intensive English Program (IEP) : 광범위한 읽기 수업을 통해 영어 능력을 향상시켜 대학에 입학하기를 원하는 학생들을 위한 프로그램.

 - 주당 20 시간의 Reading, writing, listening, speaking을 포함한 영어 수업
 - Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced levels
 - Orientation : IEP에 입학하는 학생들은 반드시 오리엔테이션에 참석하여 영어능력 test 를 받아야 함.
 - Health Insurance : IEP 학생들은 반드시 Santa Monica College에서 제공하는 Health Insurance 에 가입.
 - Housing : Santa Monia College 에서는 학생들의 숙소를 제공하거나 알선하지 않지만, 숙소를 구할 수 있는 정보를 제공.

개설과정

ESL 

The Intensive English program offers 20 hours per week of noncredit content-based English instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels.  The Intensive English Program is designed to matriculate students to the undergraduate program by improving their English proficiency through extensive reading. The writing, listening, and speaking classes will provide relevant learning activities based on extensive reading.

To apply to the Intensive ESL Program you must complete an international student application and the following admission requirements:

• Write a personal essay that describes your reason for applying to Santa Monica College.
• Submit official transcripts, certificates, and diplomas from secondary schooling and from any college/universities attended. If the original language is not English , a certificated English translation must accompany all transcripts, certificates, and diplomas.
• Submit proof of financial support demonstrating you can meet the minimum estimated tuition and living expenses ($20,532 USD).
• Carefully read, sign, and return the "General Requirements for Students Accepted to Santa Monica College".
• Submit a non refundable application fee of $50.

You will need to complete an international students application and submit the application with the following admission requirements:

• TOEFL score of 450 (133 CBT). See information on Intensive ESL Program if you do not have the required TOEFL score.
• Essay (describing your reasons for applying to Santa Monica College usually one to two pages) 
• Official Transcripts from your secondary school and/or college or university. If the transcript is not in English you will need to have an official translation in English. 
• Financial statement showing that you have the required $21,000 USD for tuition and estimated living expenses. 
• General Requirements for International Students. You must read, sign, and return the form with your International Student Application. 
• $50.00 USD nonrefundable application fee.
